Q 1: We announce
the 'Aqiqah (sacrifice for a newborn) in the Masajid (mosques)
and invite people to it on the seventh day; if they came, they would give the guardian of the new baby money and congratulate him and then they choose (Part No. 10; Page No. 464) the most knowledgeable of them to deliver a sermon. If the guardian of the newborn baby was from the diligent people, he would prepare food and drinks for them. The question is: Is this permissible or not? Please benefit us with your answer in the light of our question. May Allah benefit you!
A1:
The mentioned above action with regard to 'Aqiqah is not Islamically permissible because there is no evidence to endorse it. What is Mashru` (Islamically permissible) for the 'Aqiqah is that it is to be eaten, and given as a gift and charity as is done with Ud-hiyah (sacrificial animal offered by non-pilgrims). May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
